Go outside and play!

Now more than ever, we need to remember to engage in this simple, wise practice. Too much sitting, too much technology, too much cabin fever. Enjoying the great outdoors is a powerful antidote to reclaim our human nature.

While you are out and about, here are 3 ways to optimize your experience:

  1. BE PRESENT.

Give yourself the gift of a conscious pause. Remember what it is like to just BE in your surroundings, like a newborn baby. This practice will tell your body-mind that you are indeed safe so that your stress response can quiet and allow your restorative response to come “online.” At this moment, there are no emails, errands, or imaginary saber tooth tigers to flight or flee. It may help to even set a timer for 5 – 10 minutes.

2. ENGAGE YOUR SENSES.

Use the sensory-rich environment of the outdoors to remember your multidimensional self via your sense. What do you see? What are the sounds you hear? Are there any smells in the air? What is it like to touch a natural object? Perhaps bring along a snack that comes from the earth to taste. Drink it all in and be nourished in multiple ways.

3. PRACTICE EARTHING.

This is an accessible, free, healing modality! The premise is that we are electromagnetic beings. So is the Earth. The electromagnetic charge of the Earth helps to balance the electromagnetic charge of our bodies, reduce inflammation, and therefore, dis-ease. This tool is especially useful for the times when you are low energy and are seeking something other than food, technology, social media, or other numbing behaviors to feel better.

How to do it? Place your bare feet – or more of your whole body – on the Earth. That’s it.

If it sounds too good, or simple, to be true, you are not alone. We have been so disconnected for so long, skepticism is not surprising. If you are willing to feel better in your body, it’s worth a look.

To learn more, check out this documentary, “The Earthing Movie: The Remarkable Science of Grounding.” It blends story and science, celebrity and simplicity. It is free to watch and 75 minutes, totally worth it. You can access it by clicking here!   It also contains more information, science, and video clips.

As you reconnect with the great outdoors, allow the Earth to hold you and rest deeply into the now where all life and living exists.
