We can all agree that creating a healthy and happy lifestyle is no simple feat, and it will look different from person to person. What’s more, it is something we must constantly strive for and work toward.  Striving for a healthy balance in our lifestyles can become harder when we live in a state of stress. Consider these cleaning basics to tackle when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Work Smart

When we begin feeling overwhelmed with life, basic cleaning and tidiness are one of the first things to go—after all, a cluttered mind will reflect in the physical space. When this occurs, cleaning can feel like an impossible task because it seems like you have no energy to spare. To counteract this, one of the best things you can do is work smart.

There is always a time in the day when you feel the most efficient, motivated, and clear-headed. Whenever your motivation springs, use it to clean and clear things away.

Cleaning the Floors

Your floors are the first thing you and your guests notice in your home. Addressing this area away is one of the best things you can do to immediately improve the appearance of your home. Firstly, clean your floors—pick up random things, sweep, vacuum, and mop.

Cleaning hardwood floors will take more effort, as you may have to use a specific solution. Make sure you have all the cleaning supplies you need for your floors—hardwood solvent, mopping solution, and clear your vacuum of left-over debris.

Take Shifts

One of the main issues we face in cleaning is the false belief that we must finish everything from start to finish. When cleaning in this hurried manner, we set ourselves up for failure.  It sets in a continuous cycle where we let things get too messy, clean to exhaustion, and do it all over again. As such, it is a great idea to create cleaning shifts.

Set an alarm where you allow yourself 20 or 30 minutes and take a break once your timer goes off. You can also choose a specific area in your household that you will focus on and clean for that day, taking care not to push yourself further. When you clean like this, you know you have a go-to cleaning method when life becomes too overwhelming.

Clear Away Countertops

The countertops are a key area that our eyes naturally draw toward, which is why giving them a quick brush down will do wonders. The biggest hurdle in easily clearing your countertops occurs when your items don’t have a designated place. Your random items will find a home in your main area, which contributes to the appearance and build-up of clutter.

To clean your home easily and quickly, make sure your items have a proper place they belong. You will find it is much easier to put away your lotion, remote, keys, and stationery when you know exactly where to put them.
