Happy New Year! It’s now January 2, 2021, day two of the New Year. This morning I was contemplating what a new year actually meant? For the next 6 weeks, we will inevitably be writing 2020 on our checks and documents until we get used to the change. Maybe that’s what the New Year means – Change. What does the new year mean to you?
A New Year represents a renewed sense of starting fresh and moving forward (or in a different direction). Each requires change.
Change, especially at the New Year encourages you not to cling to your old ways of thinking and acting. Instead, look forward (or above if you’re so inclined) with an open mind and heart as you begin the journey into 2021.
Who do you want to be? What do you want to have, do, create in 2021? Now is the perfect time to focus on your longings, desires, and dreams and do something about them!
The first step in addressing them is to stop and reflect on the past year. Specifically, the things that worked. Your successes. As well as the things that didn’t. Your failures. Success Builds on Success
When you achieve the desired result that you have worked hard for in a particular area in your life you feel great! You have a positive mindset around that success and feel confident that you can be successful in other areas of your life. Essentially, success builds on success. It doesn’t have to be a huge success either. One small success brings you a step closer to your overall goal, desire, longing, or dream.
Failure is not the enemy
Failure is not the enemy and not necessarily a bad thing when you consider them as input. Information you didn’t have. Essential information to get you from where you are today to where you want to be say in January 2022. With this information, you can make the change toward success.
As soon as you have completed the Action Guide and you are confident in your answers decide on the longings, desires, and dreams that you want to work towards this year. Truly decide that you want them and more importantly that you deserve them. Don’t be concerned with how you are going to achieve them. Focus on what they are, first.
Every day take steps to achieve those dreams in the form of a positive mindset, affirmations, meditation, and setting an intention. For example, if your goal this year is to lose 20 pounds and run a 5 K then today you go through your refrigerator and pantry and get rid of the foods that will keep you from this goal. Bye, bye Oreo’s. Tomorrow, replace unhealthy foods with healthy ones. the ones I call “Real Food” which consist of lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, seeds, nuts, lean meat, and fish.
Taking steps toward your goals, desires, and dreams can be easy when you set the intention. Think of the steps you will take and plan ahead. Speaking of planning ahead I am a huge proponent of meal planning. It’s the easiest way to stay on track, no matter what your goals, dreams, and desires may be.
