Before I was a spiritual seeker, I was a love quester.  Not so much to acquire love, but to understand it. (And in truth, the latter led me to the former.)  For as long as I can remember, I have been curious about, enamored with, and enticed by love.  This interest has fueled my lifelong search to truly know love.

It soon became clear that love impacts us from day one and from that moment on, we spend our lives searching for more.  We count on it to complete us, cure what ails us, and keep us from feeling alone and unwanted. With that kind of omnipotence, it was crazy to realize that the one thing we all want so badly is the exact same thing we understand the least and fear the most.  Thus, helping people to get to know love, what it is and what it isn’t, has become my life’s mission.

 Loves Many Looks

I’ve never felt afraid or shy about giving or receiving love. In the process of living love, I can tell you my experience with familial love, friend love, romantic love, ego love, first love, lustful love, soul love, unconditional love, marital love, maternal love, self, and Divine love, has caused (allowed) me to stretch societal, religious, and in some folks’ eyes, moral boundaries. While I might have raised a few eyebrows, I’ve never crossed the one line that defines my sacred truth—a truth guided by my own values—tested and true—and my own sense of integrity.

I have allowed myself to ‘fall in love” countless times, some for the length of a conversation, other times for years. Love has expanded my heart, left a couple of fissures, and positively colored my thoughts, beliefs, and perspective on this world and the things and people in it. And because of it, I’ve managed to spin a wonderful web of soulful experiences that make true the Divine’s promise of living heaven on earth.

In other words, pursuing love in all its various looks has led me to its joyful truth.

Share Love

What I now know about love is that love can never hurt you, it doesn’t work like that.  You’re not afraid of love, you’re afraid of not being loved. I’ve learned that you’re not here to be loved but to share love, which means it’s not meant to be hoarded or saved for a chosen few, including the soulmate you’re wishing and waiting for.  Love is meant to be a point of engagement for the strangers you meet.  It’s meant to make us visible to each other in ways that help us all heal, grow, and evolve.

So, fall in love as often as you can.  I’m not talking about the drop-everything-and-be-together-forever kind of love. I’m talking about energetic attachments made through the heart. It’s through these loving ‘falls’ that we share the special connections that lessen our fears and increase our joy.

And once you get to know love, you’ll learn that as we connect with others in love, the love we have for ourselves grows. Making love, as this love connoisseur has learned, a win-win for everybody!
